November Magazine

The Remembrance Day service will be at 10.45am on the 9th November. We will be having our 2 minute silence at the same time as countless others who will be giving thanks for our freedom and remembering those who have lost relatives in war - and for the innumerable young men who died for us.

Geoffrey awaits an invitation to host the next DCD which will be in the afternoon of December 7th followed by an Advent/Christmas tea. He will also need volunteers for the Good Friday event on April 10th 2009. So far several have offered to take part. No much will happen before Christmas, but he would like to know who will take part so he can organise our part in the special event.

We have a Quiz Night in the village hall on Friday, 7th November at 7.30pm for Little Barningham. Come on your own - there will be others needing a fourth - or in pairs or already in a team of four. Don't worry about getting the booby prize - I did one time and still use my washing up brush - much more useful than the winner's prizes! By coincidence there is a Group Quiz at 7.30pm on the following Friday at the Bure Valley Community Centre in Itteringham. Teams of 4 required, tickets are £4.00 per person (phone 01263 584262) and includes a Ploughman's Supper. At least we will have had some experience first!

The council have an unusual way of saving energy - they failed to send a speaker (who was to have spoken on Energy Saving)!! But the Wednesday Afternoon Club had a splendid stand-in with Philip Baker who spoke about his experiences as an ambulance car driver. On the 12th November Derek Lyons will speak on Old Aylsham.

In the village hall on the 30th November there will be a "Christmas Craft and Collectibles Fair" from 11am to 3.30pm. Refreshments will be available.

At the time of writing Ted Linford is back in hospital -we wish him all the best.

PLOUGH-A-THON Presentation Dinner
November 2007

Photographs and report from Geoffrey Foot

Our Local Farm Machinery Club raised the amazing  sum of £16,000 for four cancer charities by carrying out a sponsored  PLOUGH-A-THON (ploughing continued night and day over 48 hours). Cheques were distributed as shown in the pictures below.  The plough-a-thon included one of our Church Wardens, Michael Daniels. The Dinner at which the presentations were made was very much enjoyed by all.

OH DO SHUT UP !

Pictures from our "Doing Church Diffently" Service on 6th May.

The theme was shutting up and listening ourselves - shutting up unchristian conversation - and not shutting up ourselves to avoid contact with others. We had six readings by Derek, Six sermons (very short ones) from Geoffrey, and six prayers beautifully lead by Kathy.

A table full of food was consumed - and a woodpecker joined us in the garden at the end
of the service!
